Digital SAT Reading & Writing
Question Types
Last updated October 26, 2026
A Digital SAT Reading and Writing module draws on eleven question types and presents them in a set order of domains. Each page below gives Kevyn Lee's directions for a type: how to attack it, and the habit that ruins students on it. The two Standard English Conventions types share one page, because they share one set of directions.
Craft and Structure
- Words in ContextFour words or phrases compete for one blank, or for the meaning of one word, in the text.About 4 per module, usually at positions 1–5.
- Text Structure and PurposeThe question asks what the text is for, how it is built, or what one underlined part of it does.About 2.5 per module, usually at positions 5–7.
- Cross-Text ConnectionsTwo short texts share a topic, and the question asks how they relate.Fewer than one per module on average, at positions 6–9 when it appears.
Information and Ideas
- Central Ideas and DetailsThe question asks for the main idea of the text or for a specific detail it gives.About 1.5 per module, usually at positions 7–9.
- InferencesThe text ends in a blank, and four choices compete to complete it logically.About 2.5 per module, usually at positions 13–15.
- Command of Evidence: TextualThe question asks which finding would support or weaken a claim, or which quotation illustrates it.About 2 per module, usually at positions 10–13.
- Command of Evidence: QuantitativeA table or graph comes with a short text, and the question asks what the data shows.About 2 per module, usually at positions 10–13.

Positions and counts are measured across the 108 modules of the 54 Digital SAT tests Kevyn Lee recreated for Kevyn AI, and they update as tests are added. The method and the full table are on the module order page.
Practice any of these types free. The Kevyn AI Question Bank is sorted by these same types, and each one opens with its directions page.
